Would ever purposely go or even live somewhere haunted?

I work at a 100+ yr old state institution. It was originally built for TB (tuberculosis) back at the last turn of the century. Thousands of people have died here over the years and it's very creepy. I found a house on property that was built for the doctors originally; it has a basement that's straight out of the 'Blair Witch Project'.

Would you purposely move in a place like this?

What if you moved in and the history was unbeknownst to you; would you move out or even sue?

  1. aw hellz no..

  2. I would definitely at least want to visit it. I am so eager to experience paranormal activity...so i welcome any chances. But i probably wouldn't want to live there.

  3. I've ended up living places that are haunted, and I've found that the best thing to do is leave well enough alone. Most of the ghosts I've encountered seem willing to leave people alone who leave them alone and treat them with respect.

I went to university at a school that owns an old state mental hospital from the 1860s or so. It's mostly office space and a few classrooms now, but they use barely half of the original buildings. It's in a tiny little town fifty miles from anyplace, so one of the popular student pastimes is to go try to stir up trouble at the Ridges. That always sort of annoyed me, because I found it to be a very sad, eerie place, but not a threatening one. The only time it really, really frightened me was when some friends and I sneaked into the unrenovated part of the main building through a door someone left unlocked. We pissed something off, but we'd gone looking for trouble. I tend to look at ghost hunting in terms of "well, would you expect a *living* person to get mad at you for barging into this space? Leave it alone, then."

I wouldn't move into a place that haunted just because I spook easily. If a place has just a feeling of being scary, I don't want it. I think it depends on the situation if I'd actually move out. If nothing has happened beyond parts of it I can avoid feeling spooky, I might stay there. If I had the money and time to spare and a place nearby to move into, I might think about moving out. Suing seems sort of vindictive, though. There are enough petty lawsuits clogging up the courts without adding to them over something like that.

  4. h**l nah!

  5. It would solely depend on the type of activity in the home & how the reaction would be between us.

  6. I would visit but I don't think I would live there.

  7. No!

  8. Places that are haunted don't bother me. If the spirit is totally trying to do more than just let its presence known; I would not stay. I have lived in two homes with spirits and they were OK. It helped in one case to research the previous owners, we found out the name of the spirit that was there and once we started talking to him like he was there....he never bugged us again but i think he didn't like that so many people were in his home. It was an old huge farm house turned into apartments for students in college, so people were moving in and out all the time and probably not very respectfull of the place.

Was the basement used for something hideous? Or are you just saying it looks creepy......... all houses 100+ years old have creepy basements. Was the institution known for abuse or anything? I assume not since it's still open. We recently shut down a state institution that had several accusation and claims of severe abuse and neglect....

I would not be worried so much about spirits of people who were institutionalized for developmental disabilities as I would for the criminally insane.

I would not purposefully move there but I would not purposefully rule the possibility out. I'd wanna talk to other past owners of the property.

  9. Dear friend,

    Would suggest few things:

    1. If one has a choice about choosing place, then it is better to avoid such place where many deaths have occurred. This is mainly that at such places many souls hovers around who died due to some cause. (not the normal death on the bed due to old age). Another thing is when we have some physical problem we can cure it with conventional methods and it is easy to get cured. But when we have problem which is spiritual in nature then other conventional means are not effective. So it takes long time to get rid of such problems.

    2. But if one don’t have any choice but has to stay at such places…. Then it is better to start spiritual practice as per the basic principles of spirituality. This way one becomes pure and holy. This reduces negativity of the place and such unsatisfied souls are driven away.

    3. If one is staying at place but is not aware whether what activates were going on there previously. There also if one can feel some negative vibrations, then the positive state of that place mainly depends upon residents. Please read detailed article at the link given below:

Hope this will help you to take decision about shifting to such place.

    With Warm Regards,

    Sevika

  10. Sure I would live there. what better way to  see if ghosts exist? I would not sue we all have a choice as to where to live and no one is forcing your to live there.

  11. I have lived in a haunted property and I would again.

  12. I don't believe in ghost so I wouldn't worry about it.

  13. Definitely.

I would love to see some evidence to change my mind about the existence of ghosts. Plus, Halloween is my favorite holiday and living in a haunted house would be like Halloween 24/365.

  14. I would go out of my way to live in some place that is reportedly haunted.

I think you would find that if a person knows a place to be reportedly haunted he will be FAR more likely to report evidence in support of this.  I wonder why that would be.

If you can't deal with a perceived paranormal presence you're just going to have to sell.  If you tried to sue on the grounds that a spiritual presence wasn't on the seller's disclosure you'll get laughed out of court.

  15. I would NEVER move in a place that even looked haunted. I would however visit just for a thrill. Never alone though. Id have to take a big group with me. I would probably be shaking in my boots the whole time because I have a ghost phobia. I'm scared of everything!

  16. Years ago I would have laughed if someone told me my place was haunted. In fact I did . One girl said.."I wouldn't live there even if it was free." I thought that was so silly. Little did I know what was ahead for me. No..I wouldn't live anywhere there was a chance it was haunted..again!

  17. Local history is such an interesting subject. There are

a lot of people who would pay extra for a good

bit of historical provenance, which would include a

    ghost story.

  18. NO WAY!!   Would never ever live in a haunted place.  I may visit just for the thrill of it, but no chance in h**l would I live in it!  And, if I were to buy a place, I would do my homework first to make sure that no body had died in there!!

  19. i would definately visit a place on purpose if i know it's supposed to be haunted. it would be sooo exciting! weee! but live there? mmmm.... maybe. depends on how pretty the haunted house looks. if it's like a haunted plantation in the south i would move in. i like being scared. the thought of being in a haunted house excites me.

  20. I've been to the Queen Mary to investigate as part of an event and found the experience to be quite interesting. I've also been to the homes of a couple of friends who believed they had paranormal activity of some kind.

  21. Nope, I ain't stupid.
