i know it sounded rediculous that he is already #2 ranked player, how much can he improved? it is scary to think he can be even better, but no doubt in my mind he is the most improved player of the year. he gave federer the second bagel of his career. i watched the game and almost feel like federer is at a 3/4 speed slow motion comparing to nadal.

i am a big fan of federer, but i am really impressed with nadal's improvement.

  1. I wouldn't say that, because he's always had a head-to-head lead over Federer, now at 11-6, and he's yet to prove himself on the biggest hard court stages.  If anything, Nadal was more dominant a couple years ago on his best surface clay, but I do agree that he has improved his game overall, and Federer seems to have dropped down a little bit too.

  2. disagree, i can see where your coming from though. Nadal has always been this good, on HIS courts. He is the clay god so he can obv. murder anyone there. but when it comes to the hard courts, i doubt he will make the semi's. I think either Djokovic or Monfils.

  3. I would have to agree.  He has definitely improved his game over the past year.  He uses more shot variation, he has made the adjustment playing closer to the baseline, he has had success coming to net, he has also improved his serve and has more pace on his serve, he is flattening out his shots.  These are things that he didn't do 1 year ago.  The adjustments he has made has made him more exciting to watch.  He's young and his game is still developing, but he has made a lot of progress over the last year.

You also have to consider the fact that he was struggling with injuries by the time hard court season started last year, so we really didn't get to see him at 100%.  We'll see how he transitions this year to the hard court.  I think the techniques he has been using recently will help him transition well to the hard courts.

  4. First I'd like to reply to a comment above saying Tipsarevic played great against Roddick.. did you even watch the game? Roddick sent smashesh and forehands that should have won him the rally in OUT.. he wasn't in the court.

About Nadal... He has been improving for.. 3 years? And he still has to improve on hard! See Djokovic.. he stormed last season with like... 5-6 titles? 2 of them AMS titles AND he was runner-up at US Open.

For one year Novak improved lots. He won the Aussie Open this year and his first AMS CLAY title in Rome + the AMS in Miami against Mardy Fish. And he reached all grand slams semi-finals atleast.

Nadal? He just wins everything on clay. That's not improving.. that's keeping the score. I don't deny it he is the best on clay but he pretty much sucks on hard. atleast djokovic has some balance between everything so I think he is the most improved player

  5. i agree!

  6. I completely agree with you. Rafa has improved soo much since last year and he was a great player then haha He made the wimby final yet again and took roger to a thrilling 5 sets an in epic match which could have gone either way. Nadal is just an amazing player and great guy i hope he wins wimbledon this year :) He deserves it.

  7. i agree!!!!!

  8. First, I need to know how bad he was before only then I can answer your question.

  9. I think his bum picking ability has improved, im not sure about his tennis.

  10. Nadal has not improved as much as say Tsonga or Djokovic, atleast at the majors.  Perhaps you are a huge fan of Nadal and you'd like for him to win awards.  I do not like Djokovic at all, but he easily beats out Nadal for most improved, atleast this far into the season.  Djokovic never won a grand slam until this year.  That's improvement.  Nadal has dominated the clay court season once again, maybe he was more dominant than usual, but it's nowhere close to someone winning their first grand slam.  Mind you, I really despise Djokovic, but results are results.

  11. I am big fan of Rafa at the moment as well and I do agree that he is playing extremely well... however even though he has improved his game considerably on other surfaces beyond clay, he is still struggling to win matches.

I mean while he did have a much better season after Wimbledon last year than in 2006, he did not win a single title until he got to the Monte Carlo Masters this year.

After he won the French Open in 2006, he went almost nine months before he won another title. which happened when he won in Miami in 2007. Then after getting to the finals at Wimbledon in 2007, he then won a small clay court event in Europe in late July and then went another nine months without winning any title. That happened this year at the Monte Carlo Masters.

However he has improved a lot but I won't say he is the most improved.

  12. I would have to disagree with ur claim of nadal being most improved...

i would give most improved to janko tipsarevic. he played amazingly against roddick. He also went up to #40 in the rankings and is the 2nd best ranked serbian guy. I think he is really good and will continue to climb the rankings. :-)
