Would footy be the same if there weren't teams you absolutely hated??

Since it's the rivalry round, I'm reflecting. Would I like footy that much if there weren't teams that I hated or that I just LOVED beating.

I wanna see Cats play either Sydney who I can't stand coz they took so many Cats players in their ride to the top (and because I played in Sydney and was spat at for playing a "P**fta's game"), or Port because their fans boo incessantly all game.

I love it if we beat the Hawks ('89 will never fade) or the Pies but don't hate either club.

Would you still watch footy if it wasn't for a bit of 'hatred'? What about you guys?

  1. nah ya need teams ya hate

  2. You're absolutely right!

    I HATE Port Adelaide!!

Glad we beat them today :))))

  3. Yeah, its fun beating elitist bogans, like Collingwood & Port. Although the Pies were very impressive against my team today.

I think our mate Romper will have a sore head in the morning, lol

  4. It would take the fun out.

On the day I hate anyone who stands in front of the blue and white kangas!

I absolutely hate Geelong..... ughh -_- I love beating them.

    GO ROOS

  5. I'd still watch footy, but it wouldn't be as fun. :)

Would footy be the same if the fans didn't hate umpires? No :)

  6. If you didn't hate then it would be a love in not footy.

  7. Without footy teams that you hate there would be no reason to watch the other games just the one your team is playing in. Also it add drama to the game, you see a full forward on say Port get drilled into the turf, I think that you would cheer more for that then your team scoring a goal or having a win. But that is just my option.

  8. I love to hate, and I hate Collingwood.  Oh now too may beers and I'm going to hate Monday morning

  9. If everyone didnt hate Collingwood, then we wouldn't be so popular - and it makes their supporters even more passionate!

I enjoy the rivalry and even the fact that everyone hates my beloved Magpies!

  10. I think its good havng c**p teams in the AFL. im a huge Pies fan and i absolutely hate St Kilda , Sydney and Brisbane lions. if there wasnt any rivalry between the clubs then the AFL would be boring. Fans stand behind your club. Go the PIES!!!!!!!!!!!! Swans, Lions and Saints BOO BOO!!!!!!!!!

  11. yeah id still watch mate but having the hatred thing just adds some flavour,i.e i hate collingwood, essendon, tigers, adelaide,pt adelaide, westcoast,st kilda, nth melb,melb,hawks,dogs,brisbane,sydney,fre...

    just kiddin.

  12. yeah good point, i wouldnt enjoy the afl much if collingwood and port werent there to HATE. i cant stand west coast either, and saint kilda. love watching the crows beating them. and in the last 2 weeks, we've beaten both west coast and port, so im enjoying it lately!

  13. raymong not wif a 8 yr okd kid

geeelong havent got any one to , *** thid im goin tobed

edit 22 hrs later, christ i had, had a skinfull, my memorie is stuffed, fuuny reading these post, richo and forky were onto me, as raymind would of been, you knew what i up to yesterday, hey mate, that cossy, it's all his fault. LOL

  14. Its makes the game all that more interesting I love it when we play Essendon and win after Sheedy started the jacket waving.

Also if we beat the Dockers and in return have to have it rubbed in all week when we don't so I will cope it all week now until next time that is.

The good thing about AFL football rivalry you always know someone who barracks for the other side in some cases they are even related to you.

  15. Well at the moment I'm hating my own team.

Very disappointed in them so far.

    Carn NORTH!!!!!

Gosh their just as bad as RICHO!!!!

EDIT: I know,,,,,it was a p**s poor effort and very embarrassing...Hey at least it was against Geelong that went on to win the Premiership....lol

  16. I dont actually hate that many teams. Only Collingwood, cause of my one eyed husband, who only sees black and white and they cant do anything wrong. I guess I honestly dont see the other teams on the field when they play my team, The Cats. So long as they win, then I dont have to hate the other teams.lol

But in saying that, yeah it would get kinda boring after a while.

Rivalry makes the sport a little more interesting, especially when you go and watch a game at the G and hear supporters(who are extremely passionate), have a dig at each other, across the aisles, and its over a call or non call that was made.

  17. Watching West Coast get beat is second only to seeing the swans win and I would respond to your swans sledge but this year might not be the best time......
