  1. Yes. I don't mean to offend anyone, but I think that generally Tasmanian people appreciate AFL more, and they would love to have their own team.

There is already a team in QLD, and I think that another won't survive.

  2. TAS could never support the team like the could in a bigger state.

TAS would be better off having all the teams play an away game there.

In Brisbane over 30,000 people attend a game, isn't that the whole State of Tasmania?

  3. NO

  4. No way. Tasmania is an Australian Rules state unlike qld or nsw. I think it is a disgrace that the AFL has decided to shun Tassie for small crowds and dispassionate supporters. Swans and Lions crowds are medium at best, neither grounds are jammed packed like Launceston. Footy is a passionate game, you can not do it half heartedly like the AFL is attempting do.

  5. I dont really know - as long as the team has players its determined and ready to accept all the rules associated within afl, i dont mind.

Heck if its in australia its good enough for me!

  6. I lived in Tasmania for eight years and on that basis I'd love to see a team based there.

There are also a few decent Tasmanians in the AFL, and there have always been one or two for quite a few years too.

But, with the collapse of the statewide league (TFL) a few years ago, I wonder whether the infrastructure is there.  Will every Tasmanian footy fan switch allegiances to the new team after years of supporting their current one?  My brother lives in Hobart, he's 35 and has been supporting Richmond since he was 7:  I can't see him swapping now,and to be honest I'd be disappointed in him if he did and I'd have to give him quite a few dead-legs.

(But then I do that anyway.)

I'd rather see a Tasmanian side than a Gold Coast one, and the argument on size doesn't convince me as Tasmania is bigger than Geelong...and Geelong has a fairly competitive side at the moment.

(GO YOU CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)  uhem...sorry.  (ha ha haaaa)

But I think Tasmania would be better off:

    1.  Getting behind its local league.

    2.  Getting behind the clubs Tasmanians already support, show that Tassie has keen fans who love the game and its traditions: and if your team is playing at Aurora or North Hobart then bloody get along there!

    3.  Getting behind Hawthorn.  Support a team if you have one, but if you don't then support Hawthorn in the Hawks' efforts in supporting Tasmania.  Even as a Cat myself I see Hawthorn as making the effort in playing in Launceston and displaying the "Tasmania brand" across the AFL's media; and of course the Hawks have had a long association with Tasmania as a source for their players: Darrin Pritchard, Peter Hudson, Rodney Eade to name three past champions.

(Okay so that also means getting behind Jeff Kennett, but then sometimes love is a battlefield.)

In terms of south Queenland footy, let's be honest the Carrara Koalas never made much of an impact until they moved to the Gabba, and even then they didn't do much until they took over Fitzroy's pride (and name).  I can't see a new Gold Coast outfit making much of an impact, and even mentioning NRL reminds me of the failed franchises that that area has had in cross-country-wrestling with the powerful and far-too-local Broncos a better propect in the supporter stakes.

Tassie would be better for Australian footy...but it's not ready yet.

If you want my two pence worth (cos I live in England now and its different money here), how about "The Auckland Kiwis"... a New Zealand based team?  Then at least we'd be able to dish out the biff to the neighbours, and imagine the pride they'd have in taking on Australians at our own game?  Okay so it's a dream, but it kinda makes you smile eh?  Eh?  Well it made me smile.

(Maybe we could just give them Collingwood?)

    :-)

  7. I say go AFL Swannies all the way!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. A tassy one - give them their own team, they deserve one!

A Gold coast one - to push up to QLD and make them see sence in our great game!

But all in al, l would prefer to see one in Tasmania.

  9. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

just because its an nrl state doesnt mean everyone watches nrl

i live in qld and i hate nrl!

i think there should be a tasmanian team but why should qld not have their team.

as u said 'brisbane' team.. i assume u mean the lions. not gold coast

    well 2 bad

lions are an incredibly successful club (01,02, 03 and runner up in 04) and shouldnt be dropped out of the afl

if, however, u were refering 2 the gold coast which is completely different place 2 brisbane then no as well because every other state (excluding nsw) like wa and sa get 2 teams so why shouldnt qld??

i think u should have asked whether or not footy fans would prefer a tasmania team over a nsw team

coz that is where nrl started so nsw is a nrl state as well

i dont think they should be putting a team in west sydney

that area is dominated by nrl!

and also, im not sure about nsw

but in qld.. there are a few people i know that go 2 league/union dominated schools (they dont even play afl at school) and they still play 4 club

and same with some people from ipswich.

ipswich loves its nrl but rhan hooper (lions) came from there

  10. No.

No further clarification needed for this type of question.

  11. Sure, I think it would be a great idea.

NSW is a NRL state too and look at how their team is going :))

    A little S****y don't you think?
