Would fraps slow down my system if its only showing the fps?

i like using fraps to show my fps. would this slow my system down? i have an amd athlon 64 x2 5000+, geforce 8800gs, 2 gbs ddr2 800, windows vista. also, how would my pc run games like half life 2 ep. 2 and cod4. I play on my 1024X768 monitor btw (it's fairly new, one of these flat tube ones and it has a nice picture quality so i havent gotten an lcd yet)thanks.

  1. If you run source based games (HL2, CS:SOURCE) you can enable in game FPS by doing net_graph 3 in the console.  I'm sure COD4 has some command to show fps as well.  Answering your question, No, unless its recording, it shouldnt effect your FPS, though it might cause weird problems with the FPS overlay like xfire and rivatuners Directx overlay does.  (Random game crashes)

    and is the 8800gs good coz im thinking about getting 9600gso the same thingand i play at the same res

  4. Any program takes processor to run. But a 5K CLASS AMD dual shouldn't suffer much (my D 352 runs well coupling fraps)
