  1. Free agency has absolutely destroyed any realm of competitive balance in American sport. Baseball is fun to watch, but the playoffs (finals) are boring because either Boston or the NY Yankees win the thing. Both teams have one player or more that are paid more than some other team's entire player list.

If Benny Gale gets his way, Rogue will be happy. Collingwood's money will buy a premiership every year and the 1927-30 premiership streak will be gone because the Maggies will win it every year. If not, they will not offer the coach a new contract for the next season, just like the NY Yankees did to Joe Torre, but not call it a sacking.

  2. While we are propping up band aid clubs like the kangaroos, melbourne and stkilda it will never work.

when we have a true national comp and all teams are making profit then maybe.

  3. No.  Absolutely not.  I get annoyed sometimes by the intricacies of the draft and salary cap but we've had what?  5 premiers in 6 years ... how many different ones in the last 20 ... just about everyone except Saints, Melbourne and Footasgray.

I think it's working well and guys like you and me can afford (and obtain) tickets to most games AND watch it on free to air TV (even though I'm still peeved about the delayed telecast of the Prelim (Cats/Pies game) this year!)

  4. No way..!  look at Soccer in England.  If your club doesnt have the $$$ , you are pretty much stuffed.  All the rich clubs sit at the top of the ladder - its no contest really.

  5. No

The rich teams would get richer and the not so rich teams would suffer and end up in differnt states or cease to exist

  6. NO, i dont think it would work

  7. No, it only works in competitions where all clubs have an unbelievable amount of money like in the NBA.

In the AFL, over a period of about 10 years or so we would simply see the rich clubs get the better players, and the clubs that struggle for cash would soon loose the assets that they had.  I recon despite how much of a bagging it cops, the AFL isn't that bad in the set up with player trades etc.
