Question:

Would get in trouble if you took a picture of a picture?

I just took my senior portrait and I wanted to buy a portrait. It cost more than I expected when I got the proofs and order forms in the mail. So the question here is that if I were to take a picture of the proof (which were sent to me in the mail) and went to go develop that picture, would I get in trouble for that?

  1. Yes, it would still violate the copyright.  Copyright law is there to prevent people from making artists work for free.  It costs the photographer money to make your picture look good.  Cameras and film and flashes cost money. Photographers also have rent to pay, groceries to buy, and kids to send to college.  So even if it were legal, it's wrong.  It also would look horrible.  Think about going to a local photographer and talking about price ahead of the sitting.  You can probably get a better deal.

  2. it will say proof on it, but if they sent you a proof, you can do whatever you want with it

  3. There is nothing wrong with that
