I'm thinking of getting an apartment and probably two jobs to pay for the bills because i know one job won't pay for rent but i also got school and my class are Monday-Thursday, only in the morning. an apartment would be good for me if i need a quiet place to study but would it be to much to handel. i would also have to buy furniture too ( is it really this much being an adult , i just turn 18 . there's so many questions i have to ask).

  1. Yep, this is what it is like being an adult, and it is not all fun. If you are the type to be able to work and focus easily, you might be able to make it. You might be able to share expenses with a friend and have them as a roommate, another option so you do not have to work too much. I've done it--and more--for a long time now, but I am a workaholic and can focus on tasks easily. It could be a lot to handle at first.

  2. Ask yourself why do you need an apartment for yourself now. Don't you think it is better to rent a room and then rent an apartment after you have finish schooling? Concentrate on passing you examinations rather than taking on two jobs. This is what an adult will do.

  3. You can buy some great furniture for cheap on ebay. I got an almost brand new cream leather two seater couch with not a single mark on it for $200 and that was one in great condition. You could get one that's a little worn looking for almost nothing. There are so many people just getting rid of stuff that don't really care how much they get for it. I think if you feel you can handle it GO FOR IT! You sound like a very hard working person, good for you.

  4. are you talking about class in college or high school? I'm going to assume college.

Why not stay at the dorms? that way, you dont have to buy furniture, you're close to your classes, and it's more affordable.

but if you insist on getting your own "apartment",then i suggest rethinking it all.  sure you can throw a big housewarming party and get people to buy you the furniture. but  don't expect to live a glamarous lifestyle in your new apt.  and you didn't even talk about how you're going to pay for food.  you can't live off of $1.00 menu items at McDonalds and microwave dinners.

Re think this plan, and maybe it's not such a bad idea to stay living at home for a few years and save up your money.

  5. I'm going through exactly the same thing myself right now. And yes it is possible, all us younguns will make it somehow. Just hang in there. Right now I'm 17 and I'm saving up for the costs of moving into an apartment. And trying to find a steady paying job so I can pay rent. Your school schedule sounds light, so that's an advantage. work afternoon shift and make sure you have time to do your homework. you'll be alright.

  6. Two jobs plus school will be very tough.  I managed an apartment though school, first with some help from student loans (and a little kick from the parents a few times) and after 1 to 1 1/2 years or so I had found professional work.  I then got promoted up to a full time 'real' job status and backed down to part time school until graduation.

If you're trying to do this on (probably low) hourly pay it'll be tough depending on where you live.  It's much cheaper to find a 2 bedroom place and find a person to share with.

  7. Ya, welcome to adult-land.  Kinda makes you miss the every day drama of being a kid right?  I think that if you can afford to rent with your 2 jobs and still have enough time for class and studying, then go for it.  For the furniture...try to get stuff for free first.  Ask friends family and whoever you can think of if hey have anything they are looking to get rid of, you would be surprised at how much junk most of us adults can accumulate in a few years.  Also try hitting some yard sales and your local discount stores for some good deals on the necessities.  If you make this happen you will feel great about accomplishing something that some people can't seem to manage till they are 30!  So i think that if you can realistically make this work then go for it, just don't get into anything over your head with crazy high rent.  Good luck and feel free to ask any more "adult life" related questions

  8. don't know where you are but my son went to college and had his own apartment, worked part-time and took a full load of classes. he actually had his bachelors in 3 years. his apartment was very nice (not large) close enough to walk to all classes and was no more expensive then being in the dorm. it is very do-able if you plan and commit to the plan. he just took all his furniture from home and we helped with a couch, recliner and some kitchen supplies. he now works full-time and has everything to live very comfortably in his own place. he still lives in the same apartment and enjoys it very much.

yes he had to become an adult very quickly...............
