Question:

Would going to France for two months with a short buzzcut for a hairstyle look too "American"?

I am going to Paris for two months and want to blend in with the people and culture, so I am looking for hair ideas. I currently have long shaggy hair, but am considering doing a head shave for charity. I would be in France two weeks after, and with hair growth rate, it would be about 1/4 inch (or a #2 buzz). I just don't want to look too American and too out of fashion. I am not ashamed of being an American in Paris, but I will be working with the French people in teaching English/American Culture. I just want to be somewhat professional. I am worried that a buzz cut would be too radical for them. What would you suggest I do?

  1. Shaved heads are quite fashionable so don't worry about it.

But the main thing is that you ARE an American and no one is likely to mistake you for a native Parisian.

But then no one will care that you are anyway.

  2. That type of haircut is not considered radical anymore, actually it has come into fashion, especially for men who are starting to get a little sparse on top...

As long as you don't dress like a "skinhead" I doubt anyone will take notice of your short harcut!

If you are going to teach english/american culture, its normal that you look american...try american but chic!... :-)

As to being out of fashion, dress casual but neat and smart...The french are usually very aware of clothes... leave your chinos, t-shirts and tennis shoes for outings in the States....

And enjoy your stay in Paris, it's such a beautiful city!

  3. It shouldn't matter if it's for Charity.
