  1. Everybody has a price.  It costs me $400 a month just to go to work 20 miles away.  I cannot imagine spending that plus my free time for volunteer work.  I'll do local (5mi. range or less).

Sorry, but my wallet isn't as big as my heart.

  2. I would say yes.  I stopped volunteering at our library when my baby was born with the intentions of going back when he was older and could behave himself while I was there.  :)

Unfortunately, it just doesn't make sense to go anywhere that isn't necessary at this point.  There are people who live in town that are closer and hopefully someone who could bike or walk would like to do this.

  3. Am I stupid or don't I get it ? What on earth has high gas prices got to do with volunteer work ? I'm confused.

  4. I was thinking about doing some volunteer work at an animal shelter this summer, & have also played w/ musical groups that didn't pay me (otherwise I get paid professionally as a musician).  But current gas prices, unfortunately, just make it unwise for me to take on anything to where I don't get paid :(  I might consider public transit if it were convenient, but the summer heat doesn't make that a smart idea either if there's a lot of walking involved.
