Would human birth control work on rats?

P.S. I am only asking because I wish there was a solution to controlling the pest population without killing any poor rats. I would not mind living with 2 or 3 wild rats as long as they do not have babies... which they always do. (don't have any right now, but if I did)

  1. being that most medicines have been tested on animals, rats included, it probably would, but in lower dosages, i hope your not thinking of using it though, your vet can help you there.

  2. No. A birth control pill was once developed which was tested on rats, and worked as intended, but when used on people had the opposite effect, actually increasing a woman's fertility. It's reasonable to assume therefore that something intended to prevent pregnancy in humans would not have the same effect on rats. Their systems are different from ours, and they react differently to chemical substances - this is why animal testing is pointless as well as cruel.

  3. of course not. the p***s length of a rat is much shorter than that or a human, so the condom would merely slip off. similarly, the v****a of a rat is smaller so a female condom wouldnt even fit. sorry, but glad to offer my services to you

  4. No.

It would probably make them sick.
