  1. With a degree in math, you will have no trouble getting a job anywhere. In Ok. the pay is set state wide, you can look it up for degree type and years of experience.

Good luck and welcome to the profession.

  2. UoP is NOT highly regarded, no matter what they tell you.  If you are in this for the long haul, it will be well worth waiting until you can go to a REAL school.

  3. I don't know anything about Oklahoma  but I've interviewed dozens of potential teachers over the years.  None of us on the committee cared where they got their education--just that they had it.  If you're certified to teach math, a critical shortage area across the country, you're in a sweet position.  Good luck!

  4. Change your undergrad major to math education.  Get involved in as many classes that require you to do hands on math problems/activities/projects.  Read as much as you can about alternative assessment.

It is not as much as the college you go to as the depth in which you become involved in becoming a teacher.  Remember the good teachers you had that made demands and how they approached students and how organized and engaging they were.  Follow in THEIR footsteps.

    Good luck...

  5. You have to check the requirements - you cannot teach with only a masters. (I know that sounds odd)

    BUT

To teach in any state you need a teaching credential. UoP does not offer credentials as they cannot fulfill the states requirement for student teaching. To teach you need:

A state issued credential (sometimes called a certification) this is only granted once you have taken your methods courses (1-2 years after your BA), passed a few tests - basic skills and subject matter verification and done your student teaching. That is a treachign credential - If you will look carefully at the description of the masters - it is *not* a credential.

Here is the state certification website - check it carefully .

What you probably want to do is become a part of the "troops to teachers" program - its a good one:

    Good luck to you!
