do you have to have all As in GCSEs to get into it? if say i had As and Bs in GCSEs but not all As, would that make my chances smaller? oh and also is anyone studying medicine there now? wanted to ask what grades did u get in GCSEs and what A-level courses did you take because everyone is getting English biology chemistry and maths but isn't that too common?

whoever answers most detailed will win

  1. i'd say decent GCSEs and the minumum required points attained from A-Levels (how many UCAS points do you need t get in - try a uni guide by UCAS) at least grade A i would imagine, you need to think about what career you want and THEN what course you want to do (and especially what sort of course you will enjoy) - this will tell you the subjects you need to study at A Level; you also need to think about what you will do if you don't get the required grades, what universities you'd like to go to if you can't get in Imp.Collage, good luck

  2. Of course you don't need all A's, but you need to have a fair amount (A/A*), especially if you want to study medicine. Although it doesn't specifically say any requirement for GCSE (according to UCAS), I'd imagine anything above 6/7 A* is good, with no less than a A in the sciences/maths and B in English is probably best.

However if you do not have this, don't despair. Do well in your A levels  (aim for straight A's) and also your BMAT test (don't neglect it). Submit a good UCAS form, full of extracurricular activity and you might just get an interview

If in doubt, just email the med school and ask if you are on track.

Tough, I know, but then again so is medicine. You must remember you are competing with 1000s of other students at the same or even higher level than you.

My sister is currently studying medicine at imperial and has just started her 4th year.

Her GSCE was 8A*, 3A's, straight A's at A level (maths, chemistery, biology) and A in AS physics, and 21 in BMAT

Yes, everyone does the same A levels, but that is only because chemistry is needed, biology is recommended and maths is linked with both/easy :P

I myself am studying medicine at Leicester, and got 5A*,5A, B, C, and A in maths, chem, bio and B in his at A level.

It's a long path to get to med school, but I definitely think it's worth it.

PM if you have any other questions.

Hopefully I haven't put you off med school :P
