My names is James B of St.petersburg,FL as a young adolescent i was stupid and focused on the wrong things in highschool and hung out with the wrong crowd i wasn't into drugs but i always had a big thing about being respected i know its stupid but you live and learn anyways at 16 i got charged with Burglary Battery for smacking a kid in the back of the head at a red light, because i put my hand through his window without his permission it was bruglary and i smacked him hence the battery there fore a burglary battery, i was in the juvenile detention center for 2 weeks and released in 2005 at the age of 17 still hanging out with the wrong crowd i broke into a house and stole guns and planed on selling the guns ... i was charged with armed burglary i diddnt rob anyone but broke into a house un armed then "armed" when we left the house with the guns in a laundry basket. I served 4.5 months in the juvenile dentention center then was sent to a moderate risk program in manatee county (juvenile boot camp) i was there for 9 long months full of h**l dont get me wrong im glad i went through it but i think alot of the time they over used there powere of being a 'hands-on' program i seen alot of bad stuff but was too scared to say anything i had my head strait pretty much the whole time i was there and really had no problems i learned alot from those 9 months, in November of 2006 i was released and went back to school to recieve my diploma, it was pretty wierd going back to school i as so used to not talking freely walking freely, kids talking back to the teacher shocked me , in my head i was thinking why isnt he gettin a chair thrown at him, i graduated that year and in oct of 2007 tried to join the Marines i always wanted to be a marine since i was a kid 3 of my bestfreinds are marines which probably has a big influence on me also anyways i had to get a waiver for my felonies and long shory short it got denied which sucked i already went to meps 3 , 4 times did alright on my asvab 72 and after sayin all my good byes to friends and family it got denied but the main reason im asking this is just to get a second opinion dont get my wrong i like my recruiter but i just think its good to get different opinions on things and just wanted to see what other people would say , after the waiver being denied the next monday i got a full time job doing landscaping(its not mowing lawns) people thinkg landscaping is mowing lawns sorry its not but we do everything but that, but working about 110 120 hrs every other week and goig to school only taking 1 night class and doing brazillian ju-jistu bout 4-5 times a week at night but i mean its almost been 2 years since ive been home havent been in trouble since i no on paper i look like a lil hellion but im not and its not like im using the marines as an escape if that was the case i would of already joined the army i already talked to the army they said it wouldnt be a problem but i just wanted to see what they would say, im a pretty fit person even though coming home from bootcamp at 162 lbs when i arrived there at 205 now im about 195-200lbs but im in shape easily pushout 20 pullups 100 situps and about 22-23 min 3 mile run for that good score on that pft that i hope to be taking soon well i hope that someone reads this and hope to hear from you soon

Sincerely ,

James B

  1. I am pretty sure the marines are too strict to accept your past.  Why dont you give the recruiter an ultimatum and tell him you will join the Army if he doesn't let you know by the end of the month...Maybe he will work on it faster.  I know marine recruiters do have a monthly goal to make because I used to date one.  Anyways, you seem like a good person that just made some poor choices as a juvenile.  I hope you do join the Army if you don't get into the Marines.

    Good Luck!

  2. As a member of the colonies I thought it was compulsory for you to have a criminal record.

  3. Since your waiver has already been denied you're out of luck; the Marines don't participate in "let's make a deal".

  4. Have you looked into getting your record exsponged.  It will take some time, money and a lawyer but since those crimes happened when you were underaged, you maybe able to remove them from your record.  You will need to convince the judged that you have changed but based on what you post it sounds like you can prove that you have turned over a new leaf.  Best of luck.
