  1. Being in officer coming into the army gives you a type of priority of schools. Get it in your contract and you will be guaranteed that job. But I don't think I have ever met an officer without a ranger tab. then again I was in a recon squadron. But hey, get it in your contract and you will go

  2. As you have pointed out, Ranger school is an indoc, and not a military occupational specialty. This makes answering the question a bit harder.

Sorry to answer your question with a question but I think you will understand it better. If you become an intel officer do you think they will need Ranger intel officers? Maybe, maybe not. If the unit you are in feels that it needs Ranger qualified officers, they will send you to the indoc. If the do not feel as you do then they will not foot the bill for the school, travel or lodging.

Your options at that point is to either get in a unit that needs Ranger qualified officers, of take leave and foot the bill yourself. Believe me that does happen, both as a ranger and paratroop school. There are some that want it 'that bad'.

So the short answer is 'maybe'. Trick will be to keep asking and to keep your physical qualification scores up high. When they ask you do to the physical test to see if you are fit enough for Ranger school make sure you are twice as fit surpassing anyone else in the unit who might want the school.

Of course that is true with anything in life and in the military. If you really want to do it you will make sure that you are more than qualified for at least the prerequisites.

    Good luck!

  3. After commissioning, you should be able to get a ranger school slot.

Almost all Combat Arms officers now attend ranger school.

But you cannot be assigned to a ranger Unit,

Until after you have troop time, in a regular unit

And are a 1st LT promotable.

Then you have to be recommended by your Battalion Commander

And go in front of a board made up of ranger officers and senior NCO's.

  4. here is a book for you to get. "To Be A U.S. Army Ranger"

Get that book and read it if you are serious.

As far as your question goes. If you want to try and make it in the Rangers as an officer I think it will be more difficult because they don't need as many officers as they need enlisted men. So you would have to stand way out from the rest as being superior.

They do have a Ranger contract you can get know with the Army were you sign up with a spot in Ranger school on your contract. Now this just means you will have an opportunity to earn a Ranger tab through Ranger school.

I suggest reading this book. It will help you with your questions.
