I have a wood fire and i'm starting to think that i might get rid of it and put in a reverse cycle air con. Im not sure if an air con would work out cheaper than having a wood fire cause wood is like $120 for 3 weeks worth. I wouldnt pay $120 for having an air con running for 3weeks on and off would i...

:-( So confused

Im just sick of the mess i think. Anyways your opinions would be appreciated. Thanx

  1. A heat pump(reverse cycle air con) works well in mild climates but if you get temps below 30 deg. F. it doesn't work well and will need electric Resistance heat to supplement you heating needs.

I would doubt that it would be cheaper than wood

  2. Keep both, one for a back up of the other, Someday you might want both and maybe the heat pump will come in handy on days like tomorrow.

  3. "Reverse cycle air con"???

Do you mean a heat pump?   They can be pretty efficient, but you'll have to do some research to see how much electricity they use, and how much your electricity costs.  Then you'll know how much it will cost to RUN it.

Now you have to factor in how much it costs to put it in.  If you already have central air conditioning, it won't be bad, but if you are starting from scratch (no ductwork, etc.) it's going to be expensive!

As for the wood, sounds like you are paying too much!   Learn to scrounge your own!  One place you might try is tree services.  They often are glad to have a place to get rid of trees they cut down.  OTherwise, they have to pay dump fees!
