The bike is $300 aud

the upgraded parts are.

Monty 219 Alp Mod Trials Bike

Is this price reasonable?

  1. Your height won't really matter, other than maybe using a stock 26" bike instead of a mod.  Most trials frames only come in one size anyway....some do come in a short and long version, though (the top tube).  That said, it's easier to learn on a mod than a stock, and as long as you have a normal longish stem on there you'll be fine.  If you get into street trials (instead of nats), you might like a longer version, but you can learn on both just fine.

I think the price is ok, depending on the condition and the abuse it's seen.  Trials rigs run from $1200 to $3000 new, if that gives you an idea.  If nothing else, you could buy it and resell it if you want something different.  The Monty name will sell pretty easily.  Since you're really tall, I suppose you aren't stick-figure weight....so be sure that the frame is in good shape as well as the wheels and bar/stem.  You want to make sure those parts haven't been ridden hard over a long time period.  If they have, it might be wise to replace them or look for another newer bike.

This is about the best I can do....I haven't ridden that frame.  I've only ridden 4 trials rigs and only one was a mod....and I still suck at this point anyway.   Register for the forums at http://www.observedtrials.net and ask this question there.  Ask about the brakes, too, because I'm not familiar with the 11's....just ridden the 33's and discs.  Great guys on that site and someone will be able to tell you everything about it.  If you don't have any luck, email me and I can hook you up with a couple people.   (also, you could email Todd at http://www.webcyclery.com for some help.....super cool guy)

Good luck....and don't forget the shin guards!   :o)
