this is my second year playing receiver, but defense just seems do d**n fun. Its alot easier than offense because you dont have as many plays to remember. our offense has the same number of formations as the defense has plays.

Im 5'6 135lbs. I Bench 170, Squat 300 , but my .40 time is slow, its 5.25. I do well in agility drills because i have quick change of direction.

I have absolutely no experience playing defense.

  1. You're really slow. But, it should'nt affect you much at the safety position. The safety normally stays behind everything. but, don't give up receiver because it's hard. Try hard, and don't quit. But, do what you want bro. Good luck!

  2. Are you a freshman, sophomore or a junior? You really need to get that speed down. You should have your speed hitting 4.7 by your junior year at least. You need to begin fast twitch muscle fiber development quickly in order to get that speed down. In a bad high school program, programs in small towns namely in the Northwest, or Midwest....or the Dakotas you may be able to play safety and get away with it, but if you are talking about playing at a California high school program where almost every team has some talent and the state has over 33 million people, chances are you will not start at SS with 5.25 speed. However, not to say that you cannot start but you really....really need to begin to get that speed down in a hurry especially if you guys are running a man to man (cover 1) or cover 2 defense.

  3. no you would make a decent whiny punk that asks strangers on answers instead of your coach

  4. Here is the cold hard truth...you have no experience playing defense. You will be a lousy strong safety in the beginning.

With that said, if you want to play strong safety, you have to learn the position, learn formations, and learn how to cover people. Safeties just don't sit in the middle and pick their nose. Learn the position and understand the position. Ask your coach if you can play safety during practice, and perhaps, if you are dedicated, you can become a decent strong safety.

    But not right now.
