Would i need a wirelless adaptor to connect to the internet?

if i brought a desktop for my room but the router and access point was all downstairs would i need a wirless adaptor to connect to the internet on my computer upstairs?

Yes.  That is exactly what you need.  Get one that connects to a USB port - much easier to deal with if you don't want to install one in the computer case.

Yes, if you can't run an Ethernet cable to the router.

Wireless adapters for PCs are pretty cheap. And get a real plug-in type, not one of those USB adapters. they work okay, but the ones connected to the computer's bus are much better.

if you have a router with wireless facility and if u think u cant get an ethernet  LAN done then you should go for a wireless adaptor for your desktop.

now there are two types of wireless adaptors

i) that fits in your desktop's PCI bus

ii)that has to be inserted in your USB...just like a pen drive.

the one that fits in the PCI bus inside your desktop gives a better performance and the USB one is handy(may or maynot give good performance)

anyways best is go for D-Link brand....they are the best.
