Would increasing taxes be a good idea?

It is a given to all parties involved in the United States that our economy is in a slow period. If you look at the history of our country, do you honestly think increasing taxes will be a good thing? Have you read about the Great Depression?

No, raising taxes would just decimate our already slow economy.  In my opinion, excessive spending causes our budget deficit.  We do not need to raise taxes in order to balance the budget.

By the way, I have read about the Great Depression.  In my opinion, it would have ended a lot earlier had the government not gotten involved.

I don't think that raising taxes would help the economy at this point, neither would cutting spending.  

That said, debt is devastating to governments as well as individuals.  If we as a people don't come to realize that we can't continue to spend more than we make.  We must first balance the budget then payoff the national debt.

What will happen if China and other foreign countries decide they don't like US policy and want their money back?
