Or would it increase it too much and then the fish would have to swim against the current?

  1. the action of the waterfall isn't a problem... fish love swimming thru the bubbles!... the scary part for them is the pump, where the water is being drawn in... if it's too big, or not properly protected the fishies can get to close and get stuck in the intake....

size the water fall to the pond or just install a nice fountain head to the pump for the sound and action of falling water and the good aeration.....

  2. Get the right size waterfall & pump for your pond.  It will help increase aeration and the fish love swimming under the falls.

  3. How big is the pond and how powerful is the waterfall?

Fish are used to swimming against currents and a waterfall would look good and give more air to the water.

  4. It would increase aeration and be fine for the fish as long as it wasnt a really powerful waterfall. Providing that you only have a waterfall that is suitable for the pond and isnt going to make a current through the whole pond it should be fine. If there are areas thatthe fish can go to rest in then it should be a good addition to your pond.

  5. Waterfalls are excellent for aeration!  They also make a soothing noise.

As another poster mentioned, it depends on your pond size, which you didn't mention.  Waterfall pumps come in many different gallons-per-hour (GPH) sizes, and you don't want too large or too small of a pump.

My own fish love to hang out underneath the waterfall; it's almost like they're playing.  I have a 1000 gallon pond with an 800 gallon-per-hour pump and a two-tiered, three-foot high waterfall.

  6. Yes it would. Don't worry about too much current the fish can cope with it.
