I am just in the process of buying a dishwashers,But I know that the waste pipe will not be long enough to reach to the sink waste,I want to put a longer waste constructed of 40mm waste pipe and slope it slightly so it does not retain the waste water,What do any of you think?Sensible answers only please.

  1. check with the appliance manufacturer to see if an extension is allowed. extra length means extra strain on the pump

the length of waste pipes ie the fixed ones in your house are given in the building regs and british standards what someone thinks is ok is irrelevant

  2. why not just buy a dishwasher waste extension, its a convoluted hose that simply pushes onto your existing dishwasher waste hose.

only a few quid from b&q.

  3. Your dishwasher has a pump that pumps the water out of the machine, so it does not only rely on gravity to drain. And even a normal pumpless sink manages to drain itself as long as the drain goes downwards. You should have no problem at all. 3 meters is a very conservative limit for 40mm pipe, especially if it is downward sloping. You should still be fine even if it was a bit longer than that, say 5 meters.

  4. If it's any more than 3 metres you should increase the size of the pipe to 50 mm waste pipe.

  5. Yes you will be ok but make sure that your pipe joints are water tight .
