Would it be OK to play volleyball if my knee cap has slipped off a couple months ago?

In April, my knee cap slipped off as i was just walking down my side walk. I went to the doctor and they provided me with a knee brace that i was instructed to wear for 4 weeks....I did as they said. I now would like to try out for the school volleyball team but my mom says i cant because of my knee. Do you think it would be fine to play for the school team for about 2 months? I will be willing to wear my knee brace, if that helps.

  1. Ok, you need to go and ask your doctor.  Just because you might think it is feeling better, it would be a terrific idea to have and x-ray and make sure.  Just wearing a knee brace is not enough to make sure it is ok.  Volley ball is a rough sport, and there is lots of wear and tear on the knees.  I would also have him determine (unless you already know) what the reason for your cap slipping in the first place.  Don't make a mistake in your youth that you will be paying for during your elder years.  That doesn't mean don't have fun, just be careful!

  2. ask ur doctor. volleyball is really hard on ur knees. my sister once forgot her knee-pads and she tore her meniscus. she had to have her knee scoped and everything.

  3. you would need to ask your doctor. andd to help with your knee, do things to strengthen the inside of your knee. like when your sitting down, straighten your leg and just lift it up and down. youll feel it working on the inside of your knee.

youd probly want to continue to wear your knee brace. andd just be careful to not puush yourself too hard.

my sisters came out last year andd mine popped out and back in yesterdayy at our first varsity tournament. ill probly be on cruches for a good amount of the season

  4. Ask your doctor.

  5. I'm not sure about the policies in your school district, but all of the high schools for which I coached required players to bring a doctor's permission slip to tryouts.  We couldn't even let a student attend tryouts without this form.  Check with your school prior to tryouts to find out if you have to bring a health form with you -- and if you do, ask your doctor if your knee injury prevents you from playing.

It's rare that a brace all by itself can heal a slipped kneecap.  Ask your doctor about physical therapy.  Kneecap slips usually happen when your leg muscles (usually your thigh muscles) are stronger on one side than on the other.  Every case I've seen, the kneecap has slipped to the outside of the affected leg because the athlete's quadriceps muscles (the outer muscles on your thighs) are stronger than her adductors (the inner muscles)  A common therapy is to strengthen those inner muscles, usually by doing exercises like lunges and squats.

But you really should check with a doctor, preferably one skilled in sports medicine.  Good luck!

  6. no you cant it needs to be properly healed otherwise when ur bumping to the ground ur hurting yourself even mire and volleyball is all about footwork too
