  1. My mother-in-law does it.  It is tough to break into the business.  Most places limit the type of advertising you can do.  You can't go hand out cards at the jail, for example.

It is a 24 hour a day 7 day a week job.  Be ready to hire good people and still expect phone calls all night - especially on the weekends and holidays.

What I would recommend is working for one first and look to see if one wants to get out of the business.  You can buy them out.  My mother-in-law has about 8 different companies but they all roll to the same office.

Not sure where you live, but in Texas you have to work under a licensed agent for a full year before you can get a license to practice on your own.

You can make REALLY good money, but you have dry spells too.  Be sure to save your money during the dry spells.  Anticipate months where you do not make any profit at all and months where you make tens of thousands in profit.  You just have to keep a good financial cushion.

    Good Luck!
