Question:

Would it be a sin to tie a rope from the earth to the moon?

Yeah. If we could find a long enough rope, sturdy and durable enough to withstand space, tie it to the pole and send a spaceship to the moon to tie the other end, have the moon pull us just fractions away from the sun and stop this global warming thing in it's tracks. Would God mind? Much?

Humor me. :o)

  1. Ooooo.  . . . monkeys would get a hold of it and swing all the way to the moon. Then they'd take over the moon and fling poo at us from there.

    Yeah. I'm bored too. :)

  2. Something tells me you've never taken a physics class.  There are so many problems with that question.

  3. 'Would it be a sin?' YES!  *GOD! Did Already; It's s called: GRAVITY!

( (physics) the force of attraction between all masses in the universe; especially the attraction of the earth's mass for bodies near its surface)

[ Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.

Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John  1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.]

[ John  1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.]

  4. Google on the space elevator; it's almost the same thing.

No, it wouldn't be a sin.

  5. Thats part of what they're thinking of doing with carbon nanotube technology... building a track to the moon. I'm not sure exactly how that would work, considering that the moon and earth are both constantly in motion, but... I don't think God would mind considering he doesn't exist.

  6. WHAT???....  <blank stare>

  7. Sounds basically a good answer to this warming problem, if gravity isn't working for us then a rope could do the trick hahaha. We could tie it to the leaning tower of Pisa.

  8. You can't do that!

The earth and moon are constantly moving. If you tied a long enough rope to the moon, the moon would lasso the earth. and eventually break. If it didn't break, the greater mass (Earth) would stay put, and as the earth turned, the distance would get shorter and shorter as the earth rotates faster than the moon circles the earth, thus the Earth would act as a winch. This continues until the moon crashed into the Earth, possibly wiping out humanity. Even the area not hit would be shaken and tumble and the crust would maybe break and lava could encompass the Earth. Or, if that didn't happen, the debris from the impact would leave the air unbreathable/crops would die. debris in air would partially block out the sun, second ice age...and.. I mean that is a REALLY bad idea.

Unless you put it on a track maybe?... and what's the point of that? you can't exactly zipline yourself to the moon. Gravity doesn't work that way... unless you had like... a rocket powered zipline.

  9. I envision a sort of "bolas" effect where the rope will wind around the earth, crushing cities and mountains, getting shorter and shorter until *SMACK* - but that is mainly because the moon doesn't have a geostationary orbit.
