As in, when you get an opportunity you utilize it and get as much as you can from that opportunity to grow and learn.

Would this be bad to describe yourself as exploitative and seen as just selfishness?

  1. In addition to meanings, words often have connotations (ideas or suggestions associated with the word).

While there is nothing wrong, as such, with exploitation, the word connotes taking unfair advantage.

  2. Exploitation is generally a negative term.  I think "opportunistic" is a better way to say it.  "Zest for learning and gaining experience" sounds even better.

  3. Yes, because exploit is generally used in the negative sense.  Like you said, you would be seen as selfish.

  4. Hmm... Not sure. To some people it may seem as if your bragging about yourself, but others might think impressively of you. Depends how you word it. If you say your the #1 student in the class or something like that, they wouldn't think highly, but if the person brings it up first saying something like it about you, then you can add to it. Though question to answer. You should use a different word though. Exploit is mostly used as in a negative way.

  5. I would use neither for the negative connotations that they have.

    Slaves were exploted

    greedy people are selfish.

I would call you an opportunist, or eager.  Those are milder more appropriate terms.

  6. exploitative - kind of means 'taking advantage of' something or someone. it's not at all about learning and growing. it's about using people. No it's not a good thing to be

  7. While the denotation of the word you gave is correct, the connotations aren't as simple.

I think "exploitative" is seen more typically as "exploiting" so perhaps you should choose another word. (i'm assuming this is for some form)

    Good luck!
