  1. Nations typically do not buy other nations, they conquer them.

And wouldn't buying a nation in order to procure workers be tantamount to purchasing slaves?

So, no, I don't think it's a good idea because it's not feasible from a monetary standpoint and it's immoral to enslave a population.

Edit: And, Twilight, please tell me you mean the 1760s or 1770s.

  2. Yes, that would be nice, in a perfect world. And, of course, that would all have to be done with the consent of the native govt, and the citizens of that country.

But realistically, that's not going to happen. The reason the other country is even in the position it's in is because of the rich and powerful country. Third (and 4th, and 5th, and so on - yes they have countries worse off than the 3rd world) world countries developed after the developed countries that exist today let go of their political empires. The countries that they once controlled were left in the dark as the developed countries moved on and made further advancements. That's why 3rd world and lower countries are always fighting some type of war, because they had to start their economies, and political processes from scratch, which causes a lot of conflict.

Plus, developed countries already do that, to a degree... that's what globalization and outsourcing are in a nutshell, but in a negative sense. Corporations from developed countries use the labor from other undeveloped countries because it's cheap. And it's cheap because the foreign countries have corrupt govt officials who make poor business choices and don't protect their workers because they want to continue doing business with the companies of developed countries.

  3. hmnn...well if there not doing it for the good but cuz they want to use them wont we be back in 60 and 70's....it'll be like slavery! i dont think thats right!

  4. Let's face facts--we have enough poverty kids in North America to make us ashamed--work on our kids first--we have too
