I have a tv box which uses a 3v 1amp power adaptor. a few days ago the adaptor popped and no longer works. I have same size adapter with the same voltage but the amps are 2.5 instead of 1. I was just wondering if this would damage the tv box if i were to use it??

  1. yes. don't.

  2. If the voltage was more than the original you would not use it.  If the current rating is higher, it will be OK as long as the polarity is the same as the original.  The polarity is which part of the connector is positive and negative.

  3. yes it will damage it

  4. No. As long as your TV box is not the reason of the popped adaptor. The adaptor popped because there might be a problem with the TV box(short). Adaptors don't just pop for no reason.

If you will supply it with higher current adaptor and it has a problem, it will cause a bigger pop!

Anyway, the current rating marked on the appliance is the minimum rating of an adaptor that can be used. You can use any adaptor bigger than that as long as the voltage is the same.
