Would it be easier and more economical to stay in Rome or Citavecchia before boarding a cruise 2 days?

Citavecchia is an hour or more by car. bus or train from Rome and so if you plan on touring Rome before your cruise it would be a big expense to commute back and forth.  In my mind the better option would be to stay in Rome which has all of the facilities and attractions and then just take a bus or train to the port the morning of your cruise.

The cruise of Citavecccia does not really have much to do.  But we arrranged a three day stay before the cruise in Rome.  Had a blast and then purchased a transfer to the cruise ship.  We had such a good time we plan to do it again real soon.
