Would it be easier to choose one or retain both culture in trying to avoid conflict?

I would say retain both.  There will always be conflict I think if you try to choose one over the other.

To be unequally joined together would cause conflict.  If one is not willing to join the other(as in religious), then the wisest choice is to move on.  If the cultures don't clash then there's no conflict to avoid.  If it's two racial cultures mixing, and there's no conflict between the two of you and no major family conflicts, then you're situation shouldn't cause any major conflict.  People are naturally curious, just don't have a chip on your shoulder if someone observes you as a mixed couple.
