I have an idea.  Hold the race and take all the profits from it and give it to organizations that help the homeless find a place to live.

Give it to Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, etc.

I think get the spirit of your question and the cost of the fuel and tires burned in one race would build a several houses in one of the Habitat for Humanity Center across the county.The only problem with the plan is that it will lay off hundreds of people in the city where the race is being held that service the fans than come and stay in hotels and eat in local restaurants,nightclubs,and shopping centers. This is and idea you might want to start as a letter writing campaign to SONOCO and don't underestimate the power of a letter no e-mail a paper letter with a stamp.

If they cancel the race but, now hear me out, still have the concession stands open.

Those places give me gas and I assume a lot of other people too.

If they could just bottle it, they could use it for there heaters.

How about taking 1 football weekend( highschool,Junior College,NCAA,Pro) and donating the fuel used there (gas,deisel,jet fuel) and look at how much is used.

And while your at it throw in the waisted Fuel used by the NBA.
