im supposed to write an essy against, or for the proposition of using re-usable eating eutencils instead of disposable ones. So i thought it was better because it would be less trash and less waste, but what about the water and time that would be used in washing the re-usable eutencils. I dont have any facts, but i am supposed to answer counter argument and prove that the pros are worth the cons. can you please tell me your opinion on if it would be easier to be for or against it. thanx

  1. i think the water and time to clean would be well worth the saving of so much disposable waste.  sometimes the disposable items are made of things like tin and Styrofoam which  are not biodegradable.

  2. Yes, of course they need to figure out how to save water used for washing and ensure they dont use harmful soap for cleaning.

Another alternative is of plates made from dry leaves of certain trees, these can be disposed of without causing any harm to environment and also you dont have to cut trees to collect these leaves.

  3. It actually takes more resources to produce and throw away disposable plates and such than it does to wash them and return them to service.

  4. um. more pollution, more cost to the school to buy new treys and plates, and more garbage on campus.

  5. My school does

  6. First off I thought they still used reusable places. ????

Well think of it this way when they are using these paper plates they are killing trees and there is A LOT of trash. Yes they would use a lot of water to clean the reusable ones, but it would be A LOT cheaper then going out planting trees, chopping them down, making the plates, ordering them, shipping them out, and paying to haul the trash off.

Man that was a mouth full. LOL

  7. When I went to school from Grade School - High School we used re-usable plates and dishes. In grade school the cooks did the cooking, serving and dish washing. In Middle School and High School, students worked for their meals by serving and washing dishes.

  8. I remember when I was little we had yellow plastic trayes and used real silverwear for a long time. I could see how the water could be a concern, they made us dump the trays and then bring them up to a window where they would spray them and the silverware would be soaked in soapy water before being put in the dishwasher. This is the same way resturants do dishes, and they get them knocked out pretty quick.  I think this is a pretty efficent way around trash. If they are still concerned about saving water schools should consider using trays that they can recycle.
