Question:

Would it be harmful to pour gasoline into the river?

I have a gas can full of fuel that has been laying around all winter and I dont want to put it into my prius because its so old. Would it be eco-friendly to dump it into the local pond or river? I figure that it came from the earth to begin with, and I would be returning it to the earth, therefore returning a balance to the ecosystem.

  1. Gasoline is a concentrated mixture of chemicals toxic to all living things. Many compounds are organic(carbon-based) and are easily absorbed by amphibians that live in watery environments. Amphibians, an entire class of animals, is under threat from ignorant humans who dump man-made chemicals anywhere in the biosphere. Such compounds are carcinogenic in minute doses that become distributed by diffusion.

Don't do it if you care about the planet and the life on it. Be compassionate to others including yourself. If everyone does what you are contemplating to , .....well,  you and everyone else here, knows how to complete the answer!

BTW if it has been lying around and it is free of water and contaminants,  you can blend it in small amounts( a gallon per car tankfull) and it won't harm the car. Or you can use it after adding a stabilizer to it and use it to run your gasoline powered mower. Gasoline that is aged does tend to form minute amounts of gum, that is why you need to add a gasoline stabilizer.

How do I know these things? I used to make gasoline by blending different cuts of petroleum in a refinery as the chemical engineer in charge of all fuels blending.

  2. What an utter t**t you really are!!!!!! Try returning it to the earth by drinking it.

  3. Yes, it is very bad!

First it is poisonous for the wild life. Second it is probably illegal in the place where you live.

Third the gasoline can still be used.

Only some 2-tact oil - gasoline mixes should not be used when kept longer than a month or so. Maybe you are mistaken with that?

  4. NOooooOO! haha..

Eventhough fuel came from earth itself, still..

dumping fuel in the water will destroy the environment... It has certain chemicals that can harm the aquatic wildlife...

Just save those fuels for use in the future.. or go sell it to shops or to somebody in need of those... But please.. Do not dump it in rivers or anywhere else... hehehe...

  5. Are you insane??? How is gasoline a natural product once it has been refined??? How is crude oil eco friendly to sea life??? Are you aware that there was a time that rivers could catch fire because of pollutants like that???

    DON'T DO IT!

  6. it is illegal to dump it in a river or pond, why dont you drink it and see what the effects on you will be??

  7. The answer is to take it to the local county hazardous waste facility. They will know where to either get it used properly or disposed of correctly. A few people still do put it in the toilet (sanitary sewer )or the storm sewer.  Either way it gets into the waterways and causes pollution. 8. Yes, that would be harmful and illegal in most countries.

Go ahead and use it.  Gasoline doesn't go bad.  But if you do want to get rid of  it, any autoshop will take it, and some will even pay you for it.

  9. no it's been refined and everything else. take it to the local oil change station

  10. You should drink it,,,and then shoot yourself in the mouth with a flare gun right away. You'd be sure to get a Darwin Award and improve the enviornment b y removing your obviously inferior genetic material from the gene pool. Hey  maybe that's how we can reduce the population! Let stupid people kill themselves off for entertainment!

  11. .... run your car down to a couple gallons of gas......add this fuel of yours in the tank at the station and fill to capacity from the pump.....you'll be fine......it takes alot longer to degrade...if you want toi spend a dollar or two there is an additive you can put in...(but you don'y really need it)....you are making a mountain out of a molehill.......eco-friendly to put in river or pond???Hahahahahaha...if you poured it on land...nothing would grow there for a long, long time.......tires are made of rubber which comes from the earth...how many centuries does it take for them to degrade and return to the earth?

  12. Yes it would be harmful and illegal.

  13. yes

  14. I cannot believe you have asked that question. you stupid c*nt. sorry bou that yes extremely harmful to wildlife and not to mention the pollution itself. sorry about the tourrettes outburst

  15. It is highly illegal to do so I do not recommend it it will kill wildlife!

  16. Poisoning the water will kill off the fish.  There are people who get their drinking water from the river, would you want to drink it?

  17. Do not do that, first off, you can be arrested for doing so and second you will kill animals by doing so.

Yes, it did come from the Earth but it is now concentrated and will cause much harm to the environment if returned this way.

Try pouring a small amount of the gas in a flat metal dish, lite it and if it burns and leaves no residue, the fuel is fine to put in your car, its OK to use old fuel, it probably has a higher octane now because it has fermented so long.

  18. You can't be serious! Have you been inhaling too many fumes? Take it to a hazardous waste dump for disposal.
