Say the building is a hotel. Would that violate some kind of basic rule of architecture?

  1. if a rooftop hatch  opens inward it is called a trap door. i am pretty sure no building inspector approves the use of trap doors

    .

if it is just a door on the roof, the code probably says to open out in case of fire. if there is a large crowd trying to get out they will push it back shut instead of open. i pity the poor fool who would think the roof of a burning building is safe

  2. Roof access hatches always open OUT, not in.
