I know girls who are 17 and 5'0"

And, to whoever it was gymnastics doesn't stunt your growth you moron.

You just have to be short to be good at gymnastics.

I guess the thing I find odd is this.  Why is there a lower age limit on Olympic gymnasts?  If I recall correctly, I remember there being younger Olympic gymnasts in the past.  It's kind of funny.  As far as I know, no other Olympic sport has any sort of age limitation.

the worlds smallest people are really small- compared to average height and all. and they aren't kids, and they probably haven't lied about their age.

some people are naturally quite small.

so what if she's 4'9" at the age of 16.

she's great at what she does- gymnastics, which FYI stunts your growth.

so before you jump to conclusions like your question you might want to do a bit of reasearch beforehand.

Given that records are pretty open in the US, I highly doubt it would be possible for her (or anyone else) to fake her birth date. And while 4'9" is short for 16, it's not unheard of. I've had 18 year-old employees that were as short as 4'11"

Honestly i don't want this to sound racist because I'm a black guy myself and understand everyone is equal. But its well known that people from the Asian continent are also quite short, and people in Scandinavia are very tall, who is to say how big or how small someone should be. And as for the 16 question an Olympic gymnast has to be 16 within the Olympic year (2008) and Shawn was born I think in January of 1992 making her 16 in January. If the US really was trying to cover up an underage competitor wouldnt they surely have said she was 15 and turns 16 in say December, that would make her 4ft9" height more plausible, unless of course its not another US government cover up as you all want to believe and maybe just she is a 16 year old 4ft9" girl from West Des Moine,Iowa. Just a theory, you decide.
