Would it be legal to start a poker site with no rake in the U.S?

I know that the laws vary from state to state, but does anyone know if having no rake might affect the legality of it?

P.S. Please no smart remarks like 'How would you make money with no rake' etc.

Thanks everyone

  1. Well you're saying poker site which I take to mean you're talking online and in that case there wouldn't be anything illegal about it.  As a matter of fact Duplicate Poker does something like this although they do make money off the play but have changed the way that the game works which makes it legal in most states and you can even use your U.S. credit card there.  If anyone wants to check it out go to http://www.duplicatepoker.com/website/de...

As a matter of fact no rake poker can make a whole lot of money because the rake isn't the only way a site makes money :)

  2. Both SpadeClub and PurePlay are located in the US, and are legal. They don't take rake. Instead, the charge a monthly subscription fee. You can also play for free, but you get lass credits to play with, and you have to put up with banner ads a the tables.
