Would it be odd for someone who can not draw or paint to major in Art History?

I have always had a deep love for all things art. I am considering majoring in Art History, but my love for art is strictly studying it, interpreting it, etc...I can not draw or paint, myself. Would I be setting myself up for a letdown by going into the Art History program?

  1. Of course not..you can always work as a curator for a gallery or museum  or as a teacher or even in the antiques world as a valuer.

  2. No, not at all. The world is full of "artists" without any talent whatsoever. The fact that you want to study art and art history is a credit to your love of the subject. And if you're doing something you love you will never be let down.

  3. I think it is great if you love it, but be prepared...I was an Art History minor and I had to take some actual art classes where  I was required to draw/paint/etc.  There may be more in a major program.  I cannot draw or anything, but I made it through.  Good luck!

  4. NOT at all would it be strange. You will be examined on your knowledge about the history of art, not your competence to draw or paint. Understanding things like this can be most helpful for an actual artist to understand his profession all the better, but for you, understanding practical tricks will not help you at all.

You're passionate about it. Good for you. You will love your course. don't expect it to be as easy as you might think

and really show it to them. Keep abreast of the lectures and do not let yourself get scared off by abstract reasoning.
