Would it be ok to ask my waiter are there any vegan options ?

I've been eating mostly salads when I go out, but I'm thinking, next time when I go out to ask the waiter about vegan options. Maybe the chef would make me something idk. Anyway, would this be appropriate. Would I be putting undue burden on the waiter. If it's the case, i'l stick with salads.

Just beware that, depending upon the quality of the restaurant, the chef may not be totally familiar with vegan requirements. Also, if you want to make a special request, don't go to the restaurant during the peak service hours.  If it's crowded, your chef may not have the time to devote to making a quality special meal just for you.

that's fine to ask. Thats not undo burden, it's the waiters job!

as long as you are PAYING --- YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO GET WHATEVER YOU ARE REQUESTING-- WHETHER IT IS ON THE MENU OR NOT!!!

It's totally fine! More restaurants have vegan options these days. Chili's has a really good Black Bean Burger! I'm not vegan-and I LOVE IT!! If you get it though-ask for it without the dairy (parm cheese on veggies and low fat ranch on sandwich)..Anyways-yes-it's OK to ask!!

Oh no it's not a burden at all. I was a server beforehand and whenever I had a guest that had a special request I would make sure they would get what they wanted. It doesn't hurt to ask if they can do something for you. They would rather make a sale, then lose a customer!

I think it's completely appropriate. Most places are more than happy to provide for their guests with special eating habits, even if it means going out of their way to do so.

restaurants are loosing business and they would love to cater to your requests if they have the items to do so

You aren't putting a burden on the server, you're putting a burden on the kitchen. I highly recommend calling ahead to a restaurant to see if they have vegan options available It's never wrong to ask, but informing the restaurant beforehand will be quite helpful to everyone.
