Would it be ok to have an energy drink in moderation?

I have a water polo tournament and I'm always getting tired. Im a vegetarian lol, so the concession doesn't always give vegetarian food. I bought an amp energy drink and I was wondering if I could drink a little of it before every game would I get an energy boost? Is this a really bad idea? I only bought one it's not like I'm going to drink 5 in the whole day. It's loaded with caffeine I know, but we stopped drinking soda for a while now, so would it be ok? I don't drink soda that often. Oh and I'm 13, my friends have been talkin about Red Bull, and stuff a lot of them drink it.

  1. Well, I NEVER drink energy drinks. They're bad for your heart. I recommend sticking with coffee, pop, or something natural, like fruits. Make a homemade fruit smoothie. SOmething healthy and not an energy drink.

    But, if you must, drink a monster. They're big, and I know this guy, who is 12, and drinks one every night, so I can't imagine one hurting you.


  2. Probably not. The extra energy they create also causes an extra strain on your heart and other organs. It really stresses your body.

  4. Terrible. It makes you more tired because it pumps your heart excessively. In stead of an energy drink, bring a sport drink like gatorade or propel, and maybe a light snack like a granola bar. I knew a kid at my tennis camp a while ago who had to go to the hospital because of drinking too many energy drinks and then playing. Don't! Good Luck!!!

  5. A drink before an event and in moderation like you say is OK.

    Energy drinks are not designed for kids though and the makers suggest not giving them to kids. However they normally leave that at 12 and under and leave the teens as a shady area.

    What type of vegetarian are you? All enregy drinks use Taurine. It is not found in any source outside of animals. It is one of the few things our bodies need that can only be gotten from animals.

    Water also increases our motabolism and energy levels by 3% when we are properly hydrated. Maybe using 2 glasses before your even will help if you won't drink energy drinks becasue of your condition. If you still will have an energy drink you will still need to drink some water becuase the caffeine will dehydrate you. You do not wan that before exerting yourself.

  7. many people dont realize that energy drinks such as those are really only meant to be consumed every once in a long while. with marketing adds and word of mouth, not to mention it being jammed into every gas station just as much as regular soda, many people have come to believe that it is perfectly fine to drink these multiple times per day.

    dont get me wrong, im no health nut. i drink way more mountain dew than i probably should. but energy drinks is where i cut the line. unless you have a unusual special occasion where you need energy to be on par, i would pass up on those.

    edit* after reading an above response i remembered that i too have witnessed a coworker hospitalized for consuming too many energy drinks. The guy passed out while walking.

  8. well i dont want you to drink it because it makes you crash at night time and it has sugar in it to much.  just drink water.

  9. Energy drink are fine to use if they are used  responsibly. If you are going to drink energy drinks you have to go by the directions on the cans.Some energy drink come with more than one serving per can. A word of caution though, people have been known to depend on an energy drink to get them though stuff,and they get addicted to the. What energy drinks are for a lack of a better word is liquid speed. A legal high. Used properly as a tool. It could be fine, but abuse it. It can be hard to stop. Just like a drug. I am a person who works out a lot. I drink energy drinks to help with stamina. That is OK. If you are doing a vigorous activity, than a energy drink is fine. Just be sure to abide the instructions, and things will be fine.
