I am going to a wedding and am planning on wearing a dress as i won't be able to hitch it up at the table during the reception to inject into my abdomen I wondered if it would be ok to inject through my dress as a one off rather than have to disappear to the loos??

  1. I've been doing this for the past 27 years and never had a problem, the people that are saying no have probably never done it but hey, it works fine for me :)

If your dress is quite thick I wouldn't bother, why cant you use your arms

  2. no the needle will bend through the clothes and of course you have germs to think about.

can't you inject into your arms? you don't just have to do it in your abdomen. there are your legs as well

  3. Sorry to much of a problem you might get an infection and you know as a diabetic that an infection is much more serious for us diabetics than if you didn't have the disease. You will either have to have your injection early or miss it.

personally I would have an earlier injection and then take some glucose lollies with me so I can keep my level up until I eat the meal.

Hey just thought maybe you and your hubby or partner can duck away some where quiet and he can help you get your dress off or up so you can have your injection tease him little and then go back to the meal with out too much bother or interruption good luck, but don't do it through your clothes it's just not worth the infections and then all the time in hospital instead of home with your man!!

  4. go to the bathroom!!

    everybody pees..

say you had to pee! (:

    haha;

    goodluckk!

  5. just excuse yourself and go to the bathroom. It's that simple

  6. It wouldn't be sanitary.

You'll just have to do it in the Ladies Room and just pick up your dress to inject.

  7. this risk is that the hypodermic will carry with it fragments of material and inject these into the subcutaneous tissue. This might cause of introduce either infection or a foreign body reaction. It is thus a very inappropriate thing to do.Popping to the loo is a much safer and more sensible option.

  8. not the best way but i've seen it done many times by several diabetics for a long time.

  9. I shoot through my jeans once in a while (2 or 3 times a month at most, and only when I shoot in public).  The needles are so small and fine, I've never had any problems with shooting through my jeans.  I'd much rather shoot through my clothes out in the open then go use a public restroom.  How sanitary are public restrooms anyway?  All the people use them in one day without washing their hands?  Yeah, now thats what I call sanitary.

  10. I'd say go to the loos.. It's not a good idea to do it through clothes. Could you not do it in your leg? Or does it have to be the abdoman?

  11. no go to the bathroom and do it their have one of your girlfriends go with you to help redo the dress.

  12. no ... no way germs may come through resulting to an infection!

  13. Notice that only the ONE person that agreed with you is another diabetic injecting insulin.  Forget the ones that don't know, as a T2 injecting insulin and having followed this type of discussion in many diabetic forums the answer is YES. Only a non insulin using person would consider that a restroom is a safer cleaner germ free place to give yourself your  Insulin.  Just be discrete and nobody will even know. I personally know of many diabetics doing this every day, just be aware that if it is a very heavy material choose somewhere where it is thinnest.

  14. I am doing a nursing degree and from what i have learnt so far, i would say definity no.

You would be best just nipping to the toilets rather than causing yourself health problems.

Or another answer is to make a small hole in the dress, for example, under a belt.

    Hope this has helped.

  15. Everyone who has answered 'no' is blatantly wrong, and is as someone said, probably not been using insulin very long or using it at all.

Folks who've been on insulin for years.. we don't do things like replace lancets every use and god knows we don't hitch up our clothes and use alcohol as we were once told to. With or without research, one has to realize that it's just not simple to run off to a (dirty, they're never 'sanitary) toilet before every single meal or snack... and frankly, most people give up on doing it within the first year.

A study of almost 14,000 injections found that there were NO, zero, zilch, nada complications related to injecting through clothing. Check out http://care.diabetesjournals.org/cgi/con...

  16. Well just think: Have you ever been to a doctor who has injected you through clothes? Mine don't. They tell me to roll my sleeves up. And they should say that to you too.

  17. please dont even consider it. go to the toilet and do it, i assume you will be there at the reception before the bride and groom arrive. the consequenses could mean that you miss the injection site and you will hypo.

  18. Why can't you disappear to the loo? most people do that during the evening, you know - to wee?!

You could get germs from the clothes into your body or fibres.

  19. Instinctively I do not think this is wise because in penetrating your clothes the needle will pick up some material and put it in your tissue. No matter how clean you have been this can cause an infection.

As a say it is an instinctive answer so i hope some with medical experience answer this properly for you. I hope you enjoy the wedding.

  20. Inject in your arm or your leg!  You really need more classes if you even think it is ok to inject through clothing!  Hopefully you are just kidding.
