I just need to change this one , I need to be wearing a retainer

if I did change it , I'd do it after taking off the crusties while in the shower and I wouldn't change it for the duration of healing

sound okay ???

  1. lol @ previous answers.

close up in seconds? lol what?!

    plastic retainers?! who uses those?

im assuming you have a metal or glass retainer.

I switched mine after 2 weeks, it healed fine.

just go ahead and switch it

  2. You cannot change a septum ring after three weeks. Its not fully healed, taking it out wil increase the risk of infection and putting in a plastic retainer when it's not fully healed isnt a good idea either. Retainers can only be work after a piercing is fully healed..which, on average, is three months..definitely not three weeks.

  3. It's not the best idea, but you can probably get away with it. I'd recommend going to a piercer and having them change it for you. They can autoclave the retainer (i'm assuming standard metal staple shaped septum retainer) and put it in quickly and smoothly. It's always hard to maneuver the first jewlery change on a new piercing, so you'd be better off letting a pro do it. Just because you don't want to set back your healing time if you miss and have to wiggle it around and damage the tissue inside that's started to heal and all, make sense? My piercer changed my lip stud after about 2 weeks. I explained that I was biting it too much because it was long and I don't swell, and having quit my job, I could have a ring, which I thoguht would be safer for my teeth than the long initial stud. He was fine with that. Had I done it myself, it probably would've taken more than one try and I would have had an angry piercing afterwards. Especially if you buy the retainer at the shop or at least go to the one you were pierced at, they probably won't even charge you.

  4. NO!

If you take the jewelry out, it will close up in SECONDS.

The chance of being able to put the retainer in is very low.

If you did get the new jewelry in, it will NOT be properly sterilized, and the chance of infection is VERY high.

If you have to take it out for a job, the best thing is to just take it out, let it heal, then get it re-done when you get a job that allows it.
