Would it be okay?

I want to get a wooden practice sword with NO SHARP EDGES, but my parents won't let me. I have been known to "injure" my brother, but I never really hurt him, and would not with a sword. What can I do to convince my parents, and am I responsible enough?

  1. id say tell them that it's something u wana look in to doing....plus sit down and talk with them about it...it cant hurt to tlak about it bro...plus quit hurting ur brother...that just might help lol.

  2. I think you should ask yourself why you would like a wooden practice sword.  What will you be practicing?

It's not a toy, and you would have to show your parents you undertand that; I agree with the others, get a teacher, and practice with a broom handle

Who knows, you may even realize you don't need the sword after all

  3. By going and enlisting in a Kendo class and having a sensei teach you how to do it safely and with proper technique. Because you've "injured" your brother in the past, your parents would be remiss to just hand you a bokuto and let you go at it. You've shown them that you harm him, for whatever reason, and they're doing what parents should - preventing potential injuries to their child(ren). If you want responsibility, which ANY sword is, wooden or otherwise, then show them that you are responsible. The rest falls into place afterwards.

  4. Why get a practice weapon?

What would you achieve with this?

You sound too young to want to achieve good health.

You don't sound like a trained martial artist.

What would really show your parents that you are responsible, is TAKE A MARTIAL ARTS CLASS.

That will teach you not to injure your brother, and will make you very mature(if you take it seriously).

  5. Your parents are wise. You shouldn't be allowed to get the wooden sword.

It should only be allowed if your instructor is recommending it to you and that instructor will train you in the proper techniques. The sword is a difficult weapon to learn.

  6. You may be responsible enough but i dont know you to say so. What i would do is ask them to do it in a controlled enviroment. Go to a dojo and learn there. Promis to keep it at the dojo and if you ever break that promise then you wont ever again.

  7. In the words of confucius, "Take stick from back yard and practice power ranger eight basic cuts and let mom and dad see how well you do and make sure brother is around ( Don't poke in eye ) and do this for long time.  Make sure parents see every move then later in day ask parents for "bokken" ( wooden sword ) and assure parents that "bokken" is dirt cheap able to find one at flea market for seven dollar.  If parents not give into demand then parents get no garbage taken out on garbage day, no room get cleaned, no yard work get done ( best young samurai always take butt whoppin and stick to negotiations with parent ).  Convince parents to buy brother wooden sword too so that he will have chance to defend self.  After get sword do clean room, take out garbage, do yard work, etc. then quickly practice with wooden sword on neighbor's cat, but DO NOT practice on brother". So say confucius.

  8. Are you taking any martial arts class?

If you are, then tell them that you want to better your self and your skills in your respected art.

But if your not, I don't understand why you want a wooden practice sword? What will you achieve with it? Do you just want to show off to your friends? Or do you want to swing it around pointlessly.

My advice take a martial arts class.

  9. get a job and pay for classes and use THIER boken!!!!

too young for a job...no such thing....cut grass wash cars or dishes and use that money for learning IAIDO the art of the sword kendo too is good but the bogu (protective outfit) is expensive.
