I'm a 16 year old female and I have to have a 1 minute monologue from a play and they said to do something we can relate to.

I'm thinking of using the monologue at the end from "How I learned to Drive" but I'm not sure if I should since the play deals with the topic of child molestation. Should I?

  1. I guess if it strikes a chord with you then you should. You have to be able to relate to what is said and project the feeling of the speaker. The subject matter might be controversial, but that should not detract from it. My daughter's theater class did a controverisal play and it was very good.

  2. If you like it and feel comfortable doing it, then go for it.

  3. Do it!  These people see a lot of the same old monologues, so doing something a little different will stand out. It's important that you feel and can connect and express the character's feelings.

When I was a teen and making an audition one time I was given a choice of monologues that hundreds of other kids were given. If I'd known that, I would have done the one I wasn't given but liked on my own.

  4. It would help if you post it.....
