Would it be possible for a country to survive without the help of other countries?

  1. Africa survives. I think that almost any country would be able to survive in complete isolation. In fact most did.

    You have to think that there was no international commerce many years ago.

    Of course, almost all industrial activity will be drastically reduced and vanished in time, technology too.

    The production of wealth will be limited and the population reduced to the size that can be supported by the amount of food produced. The surplus would be any kind of comfort that can be done with the resources available. It would be a primitive life seen from the western urban standard but it's survival.

    (I'm assuming no help and no INTERVENTION from other countries)


  2. Yes, it has been done before but very short lived. In this global economy, it would be nearly impossible to thrive in isolation....North Korea is a perfect example.

  3. no i don't think so. for example if US does not have any trade or relations with other countries, then where would the oil come from?  Over 90% of oil is produced in arab countries.

    Also certain foods like rice and tea are largely imported since US does not have much production of its own.  Majority of rice and tea production is in asia.

    There could be numerous more examples of things where a country depends on other nations for goods and services.
