Question:

Would it be possible for the itf and the wtf to not unify but wrk alongside each other during the olympics?

by like 2012-2016.. create a comprimised set of rules. this way us itf fighters will have a chance...

  1. The unification process has already begun.  It will still take a few years.

    One problem though, is that there seems to be 3 different ITF's that are closely related, but separate.  There is 1 in North Korea, 1 in Canada, and I forget where the other one is.  

    TKD Times Magazine had a pretty extensive article on this about 2 or 3 months ago.

    Overall, I think unification will be good for the martial art, and for the sport.

Pretty much TKD has to survive the vote that happens shortly after the games.  According to the IOC TKD is up on the chopping block for 2012.  If everyone votes by what they are on record of saying it will come down to North Korea and the delicate said he would not be in favor of TKD for the next games unless there are major changes.

    I study both ITF and WFT at my school under Grandmaster Woo Jin Jung, a friend and ally of General Cho (creator of TKD).  We don't do the Olympic sparring, full contact, each school is different through.  My school is for a merger but there are a lot of damage on both sides so it will take a long time.
