I hear people saying 'it's a bandaid! it's a gimmick!' well, I think if you disagree with saving your own money, you should be allowed to pay the tax, while others who value their money have the choice of not paying the tax. Is this scenario possible?

  1. No, because that wouldn't work. In that scenario, some would claim to pay while not paying, and the gas holiday takes away funding from highway projects, while giving consumers the false perception that they are saving money. Lower prices will equal higher demand (who woulda thought?) and actually drive up prices. The vast majority of economists have panned the idea and most seem to think (take that with a grain of salt if you'd like) that it is political pandering.

  2. Its a stupid idea in general for this reason:

The gas tax is used to fund road and highway improvements.  If it isn't collected, then improvements and repairs cannot be made.

Its like shooting someone in the head because they have a headache.

  3. No. The record keeping for the gas stations would be impossible.  The gas pumps can only be set for with tax and without tax.   It may be considered a gimmick by some but it would save me at least $6.00 each time I fill up.  I have a small tank
