  1. Use Logmein.  This is a free program for accessing your computer, but there is a charge if you want the upgraded version which allows file transfers.  I think that if you set up yahoo messenger on both computers, you could transfers files for free.

  2. There are a few programs out there for doing this. I will list a few and you have have a look at them see if any will work for you.

Real vnc: The data is not encrypted. You can set this one up to encrypt your data but it takes and ssh server or you would have to purchase the home user package.

Remote Desktop (note: this is built into windows xp pro) this does encrypt your data but there are ways of breaking it.

Tight vnc: the data is encrypted. I would recommend this one due to the fact it does encrypt your data so no one can steal your password over the network.

These program are some of the main applications used by system administrators to manager the computers. They can be tricky to setup but if you do a search you will find allot of step by step guides on how to do it.

  3. Yes ---is the simple answer to your question .

You have to set up both computers  to allow "remote control".

This is how " geek shops" can repair your faulty computer with-out even coming to your home --- they can even see what's showing on your monitor , as they "move" around , on your system -- on their monitor. I do this myself , for my relatives -- when they ask me for help.

Do you have at least Windows Xp to start with-- for remote ?

It takes a lot to explain all this  ----

It's late , and I'm tired from answering other questions tonight ---

E-mail me later on and I'll tell you more about remote control.
