I am moving from minnesota to california (26 hour drive) and was wondering if my car would be able to pull a small enclosed trailer from U-Haul with a matress, a futon, and 2 flat screen tvs in. I have a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS.Would it ruin my car at all? Or what other options do I have? The trailer and hitch together will be 300 dollars and I believe shipping them through like UPS or something would be way more than that. What can I do?

  1. u-haul will install a hitch but you may want to see what trailer they will let you pull

my guess would be a 4x8 would be the biggest witch is like a giant dog house

    worked there 5 years

  2. i would put the flatscreens in the back of the car in case you get a heavy rain(the futon and matress can dry out worse case.

yea you caqn do it you may want to stop every now and then to let the trans cool as it is a little more strain(more with hills)but other then that dont see any prob

talk with u-haul first and see if they will let you haul the trailer with the car

    goodluck

  3. what exactly are you hauling? nothing to heavy? it wont ruin your car. I recommend that you dont go over 2500 pounds. If my civic can do it the fast more powerful eclipse will tackle that

    Have Fun

  4. Well a Eclipse is not classified as a sports car, its a passanger car, but still, i wouldn't recommend using it to haul the trailer with all that stuff. Reason being is it will cause a lot of strain on the transmission, especially if your driving for a long time or driving up hill/mountain areas on your way to your new place.

What i would recommend doing is renting the smallest uhaul truck that will still fit your matress, than attach a car trailer to it that you can tow your car on. That way, you just drive the u-haul, with all your stuff in it, and your car is being towed all the way there. This is good cause you'll be able to take all your stuff, you wont be putting miles on your car, and you wont put any strain on your engine or transmission having to tow a trailer.

If your not sure what im getting at, it would be like this: http://www.spaceplace1.com/image/towing....

    Good luck on the move!
