The fog in the San Francisco area gets trapped by the mountains until it biulds up enough to poor over the tops and down the other side. Thats how I came to think about catching clouds, so they dont poor over the mountains and get burrned up in the desert. I was thinking all we had to do, is extend the mountains height in stragegic locations. Perhaps it only needs a few hundred feet, which could be obtained thru cement or maybe some sort of plastic sheet strung between towers. You could have this sheet made of solar gathering material. You could darken backside of material to provide much needed shade for plant life. Then provide a resovoir at the bottom to catch the condensation.

  1. The earth actually has quite a unique way of compensating for any changes.   What that means is that your intentions might be good, but it could cause extra dry conditions somewhere else and threaten that habitat.  The law of unintended consequences.

  2. Probably, but it wouldn't be cost effective for the amount of moisture/water it would collect.

Plus there are some animals whose water supply is the dew that forms on the plants from the fog.
