Would it be rude of me to ask? If not how do I?

I will try to condense this.

My friend is sick I am helping by going weekly and taking her to the store and picking up the laundry and bringing it back. Problem no buzzer for the apartment. Elderly aunt has come to live and has to come down and let me in. Friend has poor stamina and needs a wheel chair. I feel bad for the aunt or who ever to come let me in. I had an epiphany I can make a copy of the key to the building. She already gives it to me so I can bring the groceries up and stuff. It is not one of those that says do not make a copy and I don't want one to the apartment, just the building. I am sure that the thought has not occurred to her. Do I ask? How do I ask?

  1. NO I THINK NOT it is rude to ask for the key of the building, since you are there to help you might do the best that you can. Your friend has a poor stamina just like you said and the aunt is already too old to move around going up and down. Ask for a duplicate of the key so that you could give them all the help they can get. I do not see any rudeness about it. IN ALL CONCLUSION YOU ARE GIVING THEM A FAVOR.

  2. It's not rude to ask. Especially if you explain that you want the key to save everybody in the apartment from having to run up and down the stairs. It seems more caring than anything else. Just explain and ask.

  3. ditto to bear's answer.

  4. My father always told me that the only stupid questions are the ones not asked. I say along with that, the worst thing they could say is no.

You won't offend anyone by asking, and if you don't ask, you won't know.

    Simply ask.

  5. You can ask her.  The problem is when you go to get a copy made.  The person making key copies will probably tell you they can't make a copy of that key due to the message.

Can she ask the landlord for an extra copy?

  6. Just explain it to her and ask.

  7. Just ask her, telll her that you dont want to be an inconvenience to anyone.. also she might be worried you might just drop in on some random day, (i dunno you situation..) but just let her know you will call her b4 u come up..

and after she gets better, reassure her that you will give her back the spare.. unless she says to keep it..

just my idea.. hope it helps...

and good job on being a good friend! =D

  8. just say that you think it would be a lot easier if they let you get a key copied. Explain how you feel about the Aunt having to come down every time. I am sure that they won't mind you suggesting it
